A Very Short Love List

A row of buttons on a dress.

A book next to the roses
On the nightstand.

A bird on the windowsill,
Peeking through
The carelessly drawn blinds.

A man and a woman
Talking fast
But softly as monks.

A very white winter in Harlem,
Many years ago.
